Like in many other European countries, the number of pig farms in Austria continues to decline steadily. As of December 1, 2025, the country had 15,800 farms keeping pigs, some 800 or 4.7% fewer than a year earlier, Statistik Austria reported in its annual review of the national livestock sector.
